attaque[e]r le visible warmly invite you to a screening of two extraordinary experimental films by the writer and filmmaker Marguerite Duras, who creates a radically personal cinema through language and silence, image and invisibility.
Absent throughout the film
Two Experimental Films by Marguerite Duras
Programme:
Les mains négatives (1978, 14 mins, 35mm/digital)
The film takes its starting point from prehistoric cave paintings depicting the outlines of human hands. It accompanies a poetic journey through the awakening, empty streets of Paris, with a text spoken by Marguerite Duras that reads like a letter to an absent lover. A cinematic meditation on existence, love, and transience.
L’Homme atlantique (1981, 45 mins, 35mm/digital)
L’Homme atlantique is a quiet, introspective film distinguished by its radical reduction of cinematic means. Composed almost entirely of black frames and nearly motionless black-and-white images, it unfolds as a visual diary full of pain and longing. Duras’s voice and camera guide us through the landscape of a soul abandoned by its love.
