Unser Jahresprogramm beginnt mit Filmtanzarbeiten von Yoshiko Chuma.
Yoshiko Chuma ist Tänzerin, Choreografin und Filmemacherin. Sie kam in den 70er Jahren aus Japan in die USA, wo sie zu einer der führenden Persönlichkeiten des post-modernen Tanzes wurde. 1982 gründete sie in New York City die bis heute aktive Tanzkompanie The School of Hard Knocks. Zwischen 1979 und 1983 drehte sie sieben 16-mm-Filme, in denen ihr Interesse für Tanz und Film aufeinandertrafen. Danach ließ sie dieses Medium hinter sich.

Sarah Möller ist Dramaturgin und Kuratorin. Sie hat Medienkultur an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, der Université Lumière Lyon II und der Universität Potsdam studiert. Aktuell ist sie Doktorandin an der Freien Universität Berlin und hatte Lehraufträge an der FU Berlin und am Hochschulübergreifenden Zentrum für Tanz, Berlin. Von 2012 bis 2025 war sie künstlerische Ko-Leitung des Filmfestivals POOL – Movement Art Film Festival Berlin. Sarah Möller arbeitet an den Schnittstellen von Bewegung, Film, Performance und Architektur. Ihr Interesse gilt Überlagerungen, Verflechtungen und Ambiguitäten. Als Dramaturgin und Texterin war sie u.a. für Plastique Fantastique, Anna Anderegg, Marco Barotti und Maja Zimmerlin tätig. Als Kuratorin hat sie u.a. Filmprogramme für das Teatro San Materno in Ascona (CH), das Athens Video Dance Project in Athen (GR), MaMa Moves! in New York (USA), das National Center for Contemporary Arts in Ekaterinburg (RU), Jumping Frames in Hongkong (HK), das Romanian Architecture Annual in Bukarest (RO), MOV’IN in Cannes (FR) und das International Dance Festival FIDIC in Buenos Airos (AR) entwickelt. Sarah Möller vertritt die Filme der New Yorker Choreographin Yoshiko Chuma und ist deren Tanzkompanie The School of Hard Knocks eng verbunden. Sie lebt und arbeitet in Berlin.

Our annual programme opens with Yoshiko Chuma’s film dance works.
Yoshiko Chuma is a dancer, choreographer and filmmaker. Having come to the USA from Japan in the 1970s, she became one of the leading figures in post-modern dance. In 1982, she founded the dance company The School of Hard Knocks in New York City. Between 1979 and 1983, she made seven 16 mm films in which she brought together her interests in dance and film. After that, she left this medium behind.

Sarah Möller is a dramaturg and curator. She studied media culture at the Bauhaus University Weimar, the Université Lumière Lyon II and the University of Potsdam. She is currently a PhD candidate at Freie Universität Berlin and was a lecturer at Freie Universität Berlin and the Inter-University Centre for Dance, Berlin. From 2012 to 2025, she was co-artistic director of the POOL – Movement Art Film Festival Berlin. Sarah Möller works at the intersections of movement, film, performance and architecture, with an interest in overlaps, interconnections and ambiguity. As a dramaturg, she collaborated among others, Plastique Fantastique, Anna Anderegg, Marco Barotti and Maja Zimmerlin. As a curator, she has developed film programmes for, among others, the Teatro San Materno in Ascona (Switzerland), the Athens Video Dance Project (Greece), La MaMa Moves! in New York (USA), the National Centre for Contemporary Arts in Yekaterinburg (Russia), Jumping Frames in Hong Kong (Hong Kong), the Romanian Architecture Annual in Bucharest (Romania), MOV’IN in Cannes (France) and the International Dance Festival FIDIC in Buenos Aires (Argentina). Sarah Möller represents the films of New York-based choreographer Yoshiko Chuma and has close ties to her dance company, The School of Hard Knocks. She lives and works in Berlin.
